Activities and Places of Interest
The small market town of Kobarid (formerly Caporetto) is home to an award-winning museum focusing on the battles of the Isonzo/Soča front between the Italians and the Austro-Hungarian Empire during WWI. The museum is laid out in a fine old town house and information is provided in English - it is well worth a visit. You can also explore the town to admire the Church of the Assumption with its unusual galleries and fine stained-glass windows, and the statue of Simon Gregorčič, a patriotic Slovene poet and priest who was born nearby.

If you are keen on watery thrills and spills, the Soča River and its tributaries are superb for organised activities like white-water rafting, canoeing, hydrospeed and canyoning, which can be arranged locally. It is also possible to fish for the marbled trout which is unique to these waters – a permit can be obtained from your hotel, who should also be able to supply equipment and a guide if you need them.
