Food & Drink
Regional cuisine includes Soča trout (postrv), excellent beef, venison, a strong mountain curd cheese (skuta) and delicious cured ham and sausages. Bread (kruh) is always very good, soup (juha) is always freshly made, and puddings are often rich and calorific, but also feature pancakes (mlinci), ice-cream (sladoled) and seasonal nuts and berries. Beer (pivo) is excellent, and there are some very good red wines from the nearby Brda Hills and Vipava Valley, as well as light whites from the Primorska Coast and Eastern Slovenia.

One of the most popular restaurants in Kobarid is the Kotlar, which has a strong maritime theme – their pasta with lobster sauce is delicious. It is situated on the town’s main square and has friendly staff. The restaurant of your hotel, the Topli Val, has been rated among Slovenia’s best. The cuisine and service are sophisticated and the seafood and Soča River trout are excellent. There is a wide-ranging menu and a traditional flavour to many of the dishes. If you are seeking something simpler, the Pizzeria opposite the hotel has great pizzas and really good ice-cream too!
