Where We Stay
Stay in the pretty little town of Kobarid, famous as the scene of the Austro-Hungarian breakthrough during WW1, but now a sleepy place on the banks of the turquoise Soča River and an ideal base for explorations in the Julian Alps. The town has a quiet charm, a famous award-winning museum, and a very attractive church. There are several food shops where you can also find local honey, cheeses and other produce, two banks, a chemist and a post-office, a bar with excellent ice-cream, a newsagent and even a shop selling walking kit! A range of exciting watersports can be arranged locally as well as fishing, horse-riding, caving, climbing and paragliding. There is sometimes a market on Saturdays.

The Hotel Hvala (coincidentally the word for “thank you” in Slovene), is a charming, family-run hotel in the centre of town. The Hvala family runs the hotel with great pride and the 32 en-suite rooms are simple but very comfortable. It is a favourite with fishermen who come to fish the clear waters of the Soča for the marbled trout. It is also famous for its restaurant, the Topli Val, which is excellent and is particularly well known for its fish.
