Activities and Places of Interest
Spend an hour or two exploring the narrow streets and stepped alleys of the medieval quarter of Caramanico, following the suggested route in your Handbook. You can shop for local delicacies, take a dip in the outdoor swimming pool or pamper yourself with a luxurious spa treatment. There are several attractive churches to admire, including the principal church of Santa Maria Maggiore, founded in the 15th century, which has a fine carved portal. Explore the museum at the Visitors Centre to learn about the archaeology, culture and natural history of the Majella region, or join a late evening tour of the Otter Breeding Centre.

Your last day is spent exploring the beautiful medieval town of Sulmona, admiring the Corso Ovidio’s lovely buildings, the 11th century crypt of the Duomo, the immense Piazza Garibaldi with its ancient aqueduct, and the 14th century façade of the Palazzo dell’Annunziata, or shopping and relaxing in the sun at one of the town’s pavement cafés. You cannot fail to notice that Sulmona is home to confetti (sugared almonds)!
