Information for Families
If you were asked to make a list of the elements that make up a successful family holiday, it might look something like this:
- minimum travelling time and cost
- flexibility about when to go and for how long
- take the children somewhere a little bit different
- comfortable family-friendly base
- lots of fresh air and healthy living, far away from the TV
- spend time together as a family – on our own
- flexibility to decide what to do each day
- going for walks (not too long) with lots to see along the way (waterfalls, caves, views, animals…)
- new experiences, such as food, language, ways of life
- family picnics in beautiful landscapes
- no shopping or cooking to do, but lots of good food!
- places to paddle or swim
- independence to explore the area with a hire car
- nice environment for lazing around a bit and doing nothing
- a babysitter for an evening or two
- a bit of an (optional!) challenge for the kids, such as reaching the top of a mountain?
- somewhere to shop for presents and souvenirs
- a little bit of Culture (maybe a church or a castle?)
- option to do white-water rafting, mountain-biking etc
- reliable English-speaking help at hand if anything goes wrong
- children introduced to "responsible" holidays – concept of doing more good than harm by being there
All these elements are offered by an Upland Escapes holiday, so why not bring the whole family?
