Accommodation
We stay in a pair of lovingly-restored traditional casas-cuevas – cave-houses - in the tiny hamlet of Las Arbejas, five minutes from Artenara. At Las Margaritas and El Mimo the walls, ceilings, shelves, cupboards, benches, windows and doorways are all cut from the volcanic rock, creating in each case an extraordinary apartment with a double and a twin bedroom, a bathroom with hydro-massage bathtub, and a fully equipped kitchen and indoor living space. Each cave-house has a lush garden with a built-in barbecue, an outdoor shower for really hot days, a small pond and fruit trees. If you don’t like the idea of living in a cave, we can also offer accommodation for up to 2 people in La Montañeta, a charming, traditional little 19th Century stone cottage, set on a hill just on the very edge of Artenara. Whilst less unusual and striking than a cave-house, this property benefits from lots of natural light and, being above-ground, catches the warm breezes, so that inside it is very light and airy. It is important to note that this does carry a £10.00 per night supplement (not per person). If you need three rooms or if the options above are looking full, we do also sometimes have use of another very attractive cave-house called El Pajar, located in Artenara on a quiet street close to the central plaza, with 3 bedrooms (1 double, 1 twin and 1 single), a good-sized kitchen/dining room and a separate living room with a door out onto the terrace. Although all accommodation is self-catering, your kitchen will be stocked with a selection of food for breakfast - all you have to do is help yourself. Additionally, your accommodation will be serviced every other day.
Anyone preferring to be based in the nearby town of Tejeda and can stay at the boutique Hotel Rural Fonda de la Tea, which has 10 en-suite rooms leading off a traditional patio, and has lovely views down the Tejeda ravine. The hotel is at the centre of Tejeda, within easy walking distance of shops, restaurants and museums.
